What Color are Lobsters?

If you said they are reddish in color, you are partially right. Actually, they can be any of several colors including blue.

The blue, or other color, is caused by genetic differences in pigmentation.




Most lobsters are reddish in color. These are the more normal ones.

What about the blood of lobsters? Is it red or blue? Actually, it is a whitish color with some blue tint. The blue is caused by copper in their blood. The same idea is present in animals with red blood; it is the iron in the blood which makes it appear red.

My parents used to have a blue crawfish in their aquarium, but it ate smaller fish. He would jump up in the air. It was so funny to watch, but after eating say 3 fish, he died. :-\

Thanks for the comment. I have had people ask if this is for real as they have never seen a blue lobster. As you can vouch for me, lobsters and their crawfish cousins are sometimes blue in color. Please return often for new items I post.
